Of the many analytical tools available, Google Webmaster Tools is one platform that every marketer must have in their arsenal. This free tool is particularly helpful in assisting webmasters in monitoring and maintaining their website's presence in Google's search results. Its detailed reports offer insightful, important data, while the platform also regularly monitors your site for critical errors that require attention. (Don't worry – they'll notify you if they uncover any issues!)

We commonly write about Google's constant evolution, in all its forms, on this blog. If there is one thing that is absolutely certain about the search engine giant, it is that change will always happen. With this in mind, it wasn't entirely surprising when the District Maven team was graced with Google's direct (and apparently, exclusive) offer to check out the latest addition to the Search Console platform: the "Content Ideas" tool.

As marketing professionals who (not-so) low-key live for creative inspiration that is also well organized – so it goes without saying that the name alone instantly caught the eye of our CEO & President, Leigh Genetti Byers. While we're always looking for new ways to work smarter not harder, that wasn't the only attention-grabbing thing about Google's private offer. (Screenshot featured below!)

Even though the ability to find prime content topic ideas from Google Webmaster Tools is nothing new, this is the first time that they have specifically offered a dedicated tool for it within the Search Console dashboard. Naturally, our excitement prompted us to quickly follow the provided link to check it out for ourselves. While the platform itself is still clearly in its beta stages and has some tweaking to do in terms of functionality, its data could be a game-changer for our marketing agency's clients.

Needless to say, this was low-key exciting for digital marketing dorks like us... until we looked at Google's email more closely, that is. Another read-through of the message left us with mixed emotions. (The jury is still out on how we all missed the text bolded right above the blue button, but we will keep you posted.) The fact that this supposedly "new" feature already has a set end date took crushed our initial excitement about it. There is little (if any) incentive for digital professionals to invest time and data in Google's Content Ideas tool if its benefits will only be available for a finite period of time. What's more, it is perplexing as to why Google would "launch" the tool in the first place, if only to pull the plug shortly thereafter.

As far as we see it, either the powers that be at Google either have a really important reason for this cool but confusing power move or the search engine giant needs a serious dose of organization to get its house in order. Unfortunately, there isn't much us Average Joes can do but hold tight and wait. Until then you can find us the District Maven team putting this tool to good use, while it lasts at least.
