DIY Homemade Vodka Disinfectant Spray

In the wake of Coronavirus, social distancing isn’t the only thing that has become the norm. For most anxiety-ridden, stressed-out adults, it seems that our day-to-day tends to consist of the following steps:

1. Clean
2. Drink
3. Repeat

Rest assured: you are not alone in this daily routine, nor is there anything wrong with it. These are very stressful times, after all! Indeed, cleaning is undoubtedly a hell of a lot more enjoyable with a cocktail in hand. However, one can reach maximum productivity by killing two birds with one stone and letting alcohol do the dirty work for you.

It is a little known fact, but vodka (similar to most alcohol) naturally acts as a disinfectant. Not only can it destroy many germs, but it is also perfect in a pinch when supplies are limited. Additionally, vodka, that is at least 60% alcohol (or 120 proof), dries way faster than traditional cleaning products and therefore requires far less wiping before touching sinks, doorknobs, or toilet seats.

Especially while quarantined, it makes sense to disinfect our homes in a way that is effective, cheap, environmentally-friendly, and made of readily available supplies. To help you accomplish this, the District Maven team discovered this recipe to get you started. Since we’re all drinking and cleaning nonstop anyways -- because don’t lie, you are -- creating a homemade Vodka Disinfectant Spray to keep your house germ-free just makes sense.

(And for those worried about the lingering smell of vodka, fear not. Just add a few drops of your favorite Essential Oil, and you’ll not only be treated to a pleasurable scent but tranquility and peace of mind as well!)
