Voice Search Will Make You Rethink Your Digital Marketing Strategy

Voice Search Will Make You Rethink Your Digital Marketing Strategy

Aside from working with in-the-know interns, one of the ways I stay on top of latest marketing trends is by keeping current with posts on industry influencer websites. Search Engine Land is undoubtedly one of my favorites, thanks to its wide-range of topics that pertain to an array of skill levels. (It’s a great place for beginners to start, too!) While a great deal of their posts help reinforce or fine-tune best practice techniques that I already know, occasionally I’ll find some interesting food for thought.

Solopreneurs: Who They Are & Tips For Being One

Solopreneurs: Who They Are & Tips For Being One

For most of the seven years I’ve been in business, answering some questions about my company has proved a bit tricky. While I breeze through my background, skills and unique values that I offer to clients, whenever asked about my “staff” or “employees” I never really know how to answer. While most small businesses are true to size, my company is really small — it’s a group of one. Thanks to a lot of confused facial expressions, it didn’t take me long to realize that being a one-woman shop was both untraditional and somewhat taboo. How Going From Mentee To Mentor Helped Me Grow Professionally

As my business approaches its 8th anniversary, I can’t help but be a bit nostalgic. While my friends were at the bar celebrating senior year, I spent the entirety of my time working in my college bedroom. What started as a side project for extra beer money blossomed into a thriving career, and I owe Washington D.C. a great amount of gratitude for that. The District has been my home of choice for the better part of a decade and there is no denying that its impact on me has been profound.

Instagram Update 2016: The Good, Bad & Downright Annoying

Unless you’ve been living under a rock or are allergic to social media (or both), chances are good that you’ve heard about the changes Instagram has made to its app. (Or at least seen someone you follow post this picture.) To say the feedback has been less than positive is being kind. Nay, everyone from Kendall Jenner and John Mayer to the average joe is absolutely outraged about it.

Why Videos Are So Important To Hospitality Marketing

Why Videos Are So Important To Hospitality Marketing

Whenever I’m brainstorming new ideas for marketing my hospitality clients, I always like to remember why guests actually frequent restaurants, bars, nightclubs or event spaces. Sure, grabbing a bite to eat or a cocktail (or both), are obvious enough reasons. But what makes these people choose these specific venues over others? And what would keep a customer coming back?

Why Google’s ‘Local Guides’ Still Sucks, Despite Recent Relaunch

Why Google’s ‘Local Guides’ Still Sucks, Despite Recent Relaunch

Google’s effort to remain relevant in the lucrative online review space continues, but their recent revival of their “City Experts” program still falls flat. The original idea was first released in 2013 in an effort to play ball with ratings giants like Yelp and Urbanspoon. The response was less-than-stellar, as users quickly found a laundry list of things they didn’t like about it (see here). Although Google’s new “Local Experts” answers some of the users’ concerns, it creates new ones while leaving others unanswered.
